Carnival is celebrated across the Algarve and indeed throughout Portugal, but Loule, a 20 minute drive from Villa Sereia is one of the largest and most famous one with 3 days of processions with colourful floats, music, dancing and partying. This year carnival starts today (10th February 2018) and continues through Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday as it is known in Portugal with the 13th being the official Mardi Gras day to mark the last day before Lent.
