This year, we decided to visit the amazing sand sculpture exhibition in Pera, Algarve. A 20 minute drive from Villa Sereia. Described as the largest sand sculpture event in the world, the International Sand Sculpture Festival or Festival Internacional de Escultura em Areia has been held in Pêra, Algarve, Portugal annually since 2003.
This year (2018), the focus are places and faces from arts and entertainment. Sculptors have created more than 80 scenes depicting scenes in cinema, tv, dance, music and much more.
Over 45 thousand tons of sand is spread out over 15,00m2 of outdoor exhibition space. Sculptors shape and carve the sand into entertaining, whimsical and amazing people, places and scenes. FIESA is open through 10 November.
